J. F. Moran utilizes an
integrated software system that enables us to process import and export
shipment documentation accurately and efficiently. The software system is
continually upgraded to incorporate the latest improvements and changes;
particularly those mandated by U.S. Customs and the U. S. Census bureau.
J. F. Moran was one of the first brokers to come on-line
with the Automated Broker Interface (ABI) system provided by U.S. Customs as
part of its Automated Commercial System. ABI provides the conduit for the
electronic transfer of entry information to U.S. Customs for clearance and
duty purposes.
J. F. Moran is also now utilizing the Automated Export
System which is "...an export information gathering and processing
system developed through the cooperative efforts between the U.S. Customs
Service, other Federal agencies, and the export community." The system
provides the conduit for the electronic transmittal of Shipper's Export Declaration
(SED) information to Census for shipments exported from the U.S. This system became
mandatory for all forwarders in 2001.
Import Connection:
Import Connection
is a software package designed to enable a customer to retrieve that
customer's shipment tracing information from the J. F. Moran mainframe
computer system and download a copy of that data onto the customer's
computer. The software package provides extensive reporting capabilities or
the data can be exported into other applications. It is an ideal tracking
tool for the medium to large importer.
Shipment Tracing (Remote Inquiry):
With the use of a
standard communications software package, such as PCAnywhere or QVTNet,
customers can log into the J. F. Moran mainframe computer software system, via
modem dialup and a secure login/password, and view their shipment tracing
information. The login process limits a customer's access to only their
shipment information. No data is transferred to the customer's computer. This
tracking tool is better suited to the smaller importer or to those importers
who simply want to check the tracking information for a particular
shipment(s) and do not need the extensive reporting capabilities available
through Import Connection.
Internet Tracking:
This is the next
step in providing tracking data to customers and will be available to our
customers in the near future. This will provide "shipment tracking"
inquiry and reporting functionalities for our customers through our new and
improved website, eliminating costly dial-up connections and providing
current information to customers quickly and easily. Secure logins and
passwords will be issued that will limit customer access to their information
only.
